Joseph O.K. Balogun LLB (Hons.) B.L. Notary Public MCIArb. - is a 1974 graduate of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, Nigeria. He was admitted to practice law in Nigeria in 1975. He served as a State Counsel in the Lagos State Ministry of Justice and thereafter Assistant Legal Adviser, Federal Board of Customs and Excise between 1975 - 1976. He was a Legal Officer, National Bank of Nigeria Limited 1976 - 1978. Thereafter he served as the pioneer Deputy Company Secretary/Legal Adviser Societe Generale Bank (Nigeria) Limited 1978 - 1980. From 1980 - 1984 he was Managing Partner Chief Kolawole Balogun & Co. (Family Law Firm). Mr. Balogun since 1984 joined the law firm of St. Matthew-Daniel, Balogun & Associates as Joint Managing Partner. With effect from the year 2000 Mr. Balogun joined the law firm of Nnenna Ejekam Associates as a Partner. Mr. Balogun is a member of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators England. He has been involved as counsel in Arbitral Matters nationally and internationally.
Mr. Balogun an innovative advocate, well regarded by the Bar and Bench, he has vast experience in banking, financial, corporate, capital issues, commercial and international transactions. He has handled various notable cases especially in banking matters some of which have broken new grounds in banking practice in Nigeria. He also acts as consultant to Nigerian and foreign legal practitioners in his area of practice. He is head of his law firm’s Commercial and Banking Litigation, Corporate, Intellectual Property, Banking, Financial, Public Issues, Mergers and Acquisitions and International Transactions practice.
He is an active member of International Bar Association, Section on Business Law, member Study Group for International Commercial contracts, London, member Professional Practice Group Lagos chamber of Commerce, Consultant/Lecturer Bruce Kirchoff Commercial Law Training Group; Consultant Safety and Survival Institute, Port Harcourt. He has also held various public offices on a partime basis including membership of the Lagos State Revenue Advisory committee 1989 - 1991; Lagos State Tribunal for Local Government Elections.
